The Audio Renaming Category is a conceptual framework designed to support sound designers in the early stages of their design process, specifically during raw sound recording and field recording. The principle is to encourage exploration with a non-descriptive approach through sound description close to physics.
Created to complement UCS (Universal Category System).
An 8-spaced microphone array created for immersive sound recording. It closely resembles the Audio-Technica BP3600 design but utilizes less directive microphones (8 cardioids instead of hyper-cardioids). The cube described by the Octopus is 25cm wide, with a 90° spacing between capsules.
A series of recordings in the city of Toulon, France, featuring a multichannel IRT cross setup (4 cardioids), hydrophones and AB spaced microphones.
